  • The relevance of the research is based on the fact that Russian economic crisis that started in 2014 has affected all economy sectors and has significantly changed the forecast for the economic development of the country as a whole and the sphere of tourism in particular. The deterioration of the international situation and resulting from it bankruptcies of several tour operators have contributed to decreasing outbound tourism, which resulted in turning to domestic destinations.
We consider the influence of the economic crisis on the sphere of tourism and trends in the development of domestic tourist market and its prospects. We also look at certain documents aimed at the development of domestic and outbound tourism including the Federal Target Program for 2011–2018.
We also consider the impact of currency exchange rate on the sphere of tourism that positively affected the place of Russia in the international ranking according to the level of competitiveness of travel and tourism.
We also reveal the main prospects and consider the trends of tourism development under crisis. Besides, we distinguish factors preventing the development of domestic and outbound tourism in Russia and show their influence on the economy.
