  • The article provides analysis of the process of a rural family adaptation to the new market economy environment, reveals the most relevant economic, social and psychological problems of this procedure. The author summarizes results of the sociological study carried out in several rural districts of the Republic of Buryatia by interviewing respondents with regard to the assessment of the current state of a rural family and private households. The results of the study show general improvement of material position of rural families, positive trend of evolving new social and labour relationships. The article also studies target oriented programs being in force in the region as well as new forms of federal support of farmers, substantiates the need for transforming mentality of a farmer as the owner of a private household and other forms of making business under free competition environment.
